Terms of use
The agreement between you and us when you use Obunu. It is short on purpose. If something here is unclear, ask us at hello@obunu.com.

Who we are
These terms are between you and Future Dynamic, the Netherlands, which runs Obunu under that trade name ("we", "us"). Our address and registration numbers are on the contact page. By making an Obunu passport, using the console or buying something from us, you agree to these terms.
1. What Obunu is
Obunu is software for building worlds you can walk through together, in a browser or a VR headset, and for hosting them yourself. It has three parts:
- The console (and the host program) runs your world on your own computer. Your world, its files and what happens in it stay on your machine.
- The passport (passport.obunu.com and the app) is your account. It signs you in, keeps your friends and your look, lists the worlds you may visit, and gives you a short-lived visa to walk into one. It also gives a world an address on the internet, a relay for voice, and a place to leave a dream (a still copy) while it is closed.
- The store has outfits and gear looks for your avatar, made by us, for credits.
Obunu is a tool, not a store or a stage. We don't look inside the worlds you host yourself, list them publicly or pick what goes in them. That is yours, and so is the responsibility for it (section 5).
2. The beta
Obunu is in a closed beta. That means:
- You need an invitation (from the waitlist, a friend, or a key you found) to take part. An invitation is for you; please don't sell it.
- Things will break, change or go away, sometimes without warning, including features you pay for (section 7 says what happens to what you paid). Please tell us when something breaks: the console's Something's wrong? sends us a report.
- We may end the beta, or your part in it, at any time. If we end Obunu itself, we tell you at least 30 days ahead and say how to keep your worlds (they are on your computer already).
3. Your passport
- One person, one passport. Sign in with your own mail address, Google or Facebook. Keep your sign-in to yourself: what is done with your passport is done by you.
- Age: you must be 16 or older to have a passport (section 4).
- Your handle, name and look are seen by your friends and by the worlds you walk into. Don't pick a handle or name that pretends to be someone else, or that is abusive.
- You can have your passport deleted at any time: write to privacy@obunu.com from the address you sign in with. Your worlds stay on your computer.
4. Age
You must be 16 or older to make a passport, host a world or walk into one through Obunu. By making a passport you confirm that you are. We don't ask for a birth date or an ID.
Why 16: Obunu has voice chat with people you may not know (a friend's friend who knocks on a world), and worlds made by anyone that we don't moderate. If we learn that a passport belongs to someone younger, we remove it and its data, and tell the mail address it was made with. A parent who thinks their child has a passport can write to privacy@obunu.com.
5. Your worlds and what you put in them
- Your world is yours. You own what you make. You give us only the permission we need to run the passport for you: to show your world's name, colour and picture to the people you let see it, to carry its traffic through its address, and, if you leave a dream or let us host the world, to store a copy of its files and show it to the people who may see your world. That permission ends when you remove the world or the dream (copies in our backups go within 30 days).
- You answer for what is in it. Hosting a world is like having people in your home: you
decide what is there, and you are responsible for it. Don't put things in your world (or in a dream, a note,
or something people carry) that you have no right to share with the people you let in, that are illegal
where you or they are, or that hurt people. In particular:
- other people's copyrighted files (games, music, films, models, pictures) only where the law lets you share them with your guests. A private world at home for your own household and friends is not a public stage, and a dream is shared with everyone who may see your world;
- nothing sexual involving minors, no content that incites violence or hatred, no malware, nothing that tracks or attacks the people who visit;
- world scripts and AI helpers run in a sandbox: don't try to break out of it, or into other people's worlds or the passport.
- Guests in your world are your guests. You choose who may enter (friends, invites, knocks), and you can remove and block people in your world. Obunu gives you the tools; it doesn't moderate your world for you.
- What we store: a dream, a world's picture in a friend's directory, a note you leave in someone's dream, a world we host for you. If someone tells us one of these is unlawful, we may remove it (section 8).
A world Obunu hosts for you, in the Nexus
Jade includes one world that Obunu runs for you on a machine of its own, as a Nexus world. A Nexus world is public and stored by us, so it has rules of its own, on top of the ones above:
- Public: it is in everyone's atlas, and anyone with a passport can come in as a visitor. It can't be made private.
- Moderated: everyone inside can block, report and leave; reports reach you and your builders, and we can take the world down.
- Nothing with someone else's rights: your own builds, and things that are free to share (such as CC0 or CC BY, with credit), only. No ripped models, posters, music, films or game files.
- For everyone: no adult content, nothing hateful or illegal. These terms apply to your guests there too.
A Nexus world that breaks these rules is first taken out of the atlas, then down. When your pass ends, your hosted world isn't deleted: it rests for 30 days, and you can bring it home or download a full copy of it at any time in those days. A new pass wakes it as it was.
6. What you may not do with Obunu
- Use it to break the law, or to harass, threaten, impersonate or spy on people.
- Attack or overload the passport, try to get around its limits (rate limits, the sandbox, visas, sealed surprises), or scrape it.
- Resell access to the passport, a world's address or the voice relay as a service of your own.
- Reverse-engineer the console or the engine to make a competing service, except as far as the law allows you to anyway.
- Use the address we give your world for something other than your world (a file host, a proxy, a VPN).
- Pass on or sell copies of what our store sells.
7. Paying: passes, the Founders pass and credits
What each thing costs and what it includes is on the pricing page. You buy on your passport, at passport.obunu.com/plan.
Jade passes
Jade is Obunu's paid tier. You buy it as a pass for one month or one year, paid once. A pass does not renew by itself: you are never charged again unless you buy a new pass, so there is nothing to cancel. A new pass starts after any Jade time you still have. When a pass ends, your passport goes back to Copper, the free tier: nothing you made is deleted, but a second world, a dream or a hosted world may close until you choose (a hosted world as in section 5).
The Founders pass
The Founders pass is Jade for life: Jade for as long as Obunu runs, paid once, with nothing more to pay. There is a limited number of them; when they are gone, they are not sold again. A Founders pass belongs to the passport that bought it and can't be passed on.
Credits
- Credits are spent in Obunu's own store, on outfits and gear looks made by us. 10 credits are worth €1 when you buy them in a pack. Jade also gives 10 credits each month.
- Credits have no cash value. They can't be exchanged back for money, cashed out, sold, or transferred to another passport. (A pack you bought and haven't spent can be refunded within 14 days: see the refund policy.)
- Credits don't expire while Obunu runs. We never sell random rewards (loot boxes) for money.
- What you take from the store is yours to wear in any world for as long as Obunu runs. Within five minutes you can undo it and get the credits back.
Prices and payment
- Prices are in euros and include VAT. The price you see before you pay is the price you pay.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or keep your card details.
- What you buy is delivered to your passport as soon as the payment has gone through.
Your right of withdrawal
Under EU consumer law you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase made online. For digital content and digital services, such as passes and credits, that right ends once delivery has started with your agreement.
Passes and credits are delivered at once. So at checkout you expressly agree that delivery starts immediately, and you acknowledge that you lose your right of withdrawal once it has started.
On top of what the law asks, we refund a pass or credits you haven't used yet within 14 days. How, and what counts as used: the refund policy.
When something you paid for doesn't work
- If you can't use what you paid for because of something on our side, we extend your pass by the time you lost or, if you prefer, refund the part you didn't get. Your legal rights when a digital service doesn't work as promised always apply as well.
- If we end Obunu, we tell you at least 30 days ahead and refund bought credits you haven't spent and the unused part of a Jade pass.
- During the closed beta, free passports may have Jade's limits for a while. When that ends, they go back to Copper's limits; nothing you made is deleted.
8. When we act
We may remove something we store (a dream, a carried thing's model, a note, a world's name or picture, a hosted world), stop a world's address, or suspend a passport when:
- someone sends us a valid notice that it is unlawful (to takedown@obunu.com);
- it breaks these terms in a way that harms others or the service;
- you pass on or sell copies of what the store sells, after a warning; or you pay with someone else's card, or take back payments as a habit;
- the law requires it.
Using something from the store you didn't buy, in your own world, is not a reason to suspend your passport.
We tell you what we did and why, and how to answer, unless the law or someone's safety says otherwise. Someone who keeps putting unlawful things up loses their passport. You can always ask us to look again: hello@obunu.com.
9. What we promise, and what we don't
- We try to keep the passport running and your data safe (backups every night, encrypted; see the privacy statement). But Obunu is a beta and comes as it is, without a promise that it will always work or suit your purpose.
- We aren't responsible for what other people put in their worlds, for what happens in a world you visit, or for a world host's computer.
- Our liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the thing that went wrong, or €100 if that is more. This limit doesn't apply where the law doesn't allow one, for example when we act on purpose or with gross negligence, or for death or injury.
- Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under the law.
10. Changes, and the law
- We may change these terms. We tell you by mail 30 days before a change that matters, and you may have your passport deleted before then. The date at the top says when they last changed.
- Dutch law applies. A dispute goes to the competent court in the Netherlands, unless the law of your country gives you, as a consumer, more protection or your own court; then you keep that.
11. Contact
